Our symbol for this season at Southminster PC is The Nail.
• The nail reminds us that love and life are a gift that come through sacrifice.
• The nail reminds us that all that we have received and all that we can be is a gift from Jesus.
• The nail is an awkward thing – a confrontational thing – like the cross.
• The nail asks, “What are you building? What is God establishing in you?”
• The nail challenges each of us, this Lent, to ask the questions
o What needs repairing in my life?
o Where is God calling me to repair damage, to replace loss, to make life come new in other’s lives?
It does my heart so much good, and gives me so much joy to realize;
• that it is because of Jesus I have been built into the family of God.
• It is because of Jesus that the whole structure of my life works together and grows to be a holy temple.
• It is by the gift of the cross of Jesus that you and I are built into this common task, into this heavenly family, together.
It is the nail – and the cross of Jesus – that reminds us that we are entirely and everlastingly loved.
