Moderator's Musings, November 2007
Moderator's Musings, November 2007
By the year’s end I will have moderated five Presbytery meetings, all held at different churches in the Presbytery.  I have to say, this has been a true challenge.  Managing the often highly charged discussion generated by important issues is not an easy task.  I have a new appreciation for anyone in this position, and have welcomed the growth that has come from this experience.

The biggest surprise has come with the task of moderating the Presbytery Council, the body charged with oversight of the Presbytery mission and structure.  The number of issues and projects that we deal with is sometimes overwhelming.  But it has been energizing trying to prioritize and deal with those issues that are most critical.

As I have mentioned before, one of the things about which I feel very good is the introduction of a policy regarding Alternative Dispute Resolution.  It is no surprise that there is some tension in the Presbyterian Church USA.  Some churches are leaving the denomination.  This has not occurred in the Seattle Presbytery, and the adopting of Alternative Dispute Resolution will provide for healthy conversation if the issue does arise.

I will be preaching at the last meeting of the year and will moderate that meeting as well.  Trinity is hosting the meeting, but it will be held at Lake City Presbyterian Church.  I encourage you to pray for this meeting.

Over all being your moderator has been a great experience.  I have a new appreciation for what it means to be a follower of Jesus Christ in the Presbyterian tradition.  And I thank you for your support this year.

With God’s blessings,
Randy
