We needs lots of help. We are working away on completion. Everything was begun and was substantially addressed by the end of the [first] two weekends [in June], but not one room was complete. The work goes on with volunteers who are from the building trades and unskilled folks from Mt View and some others from UPC who knew we still need lots of help. On Sunday [June 17]we worshipped on new carpet and new chairs in our "moving towards completion" new sanctuary/multi-purpose space.
We are grateful for and can use both skilled and unskilled help. There is a work party planned for Saturday, the 23rd from 7am to 4pm. And we are scheduling groups who want to do work parties whenever we can. Yesterday (June 20) we were greatly encouraged by a group working all day from Union Gospel Mission (our ministry partner to kids) and last evening a group from the Young Adult Tuesday fellowship from UPC made great progress towards completing the vinyl tiling in our fellowship hall for our monthly Potluck next Sunday.
We will have full outreach summer programming for kids beginning on July 5th and are urgently moving towards at least all spaces being safe for them by then. We are also pursuing hiring various tasks to be done which are not scheduled with skilled volunteers, so offers of money and materials are still welcome as well.
Besides help finishing the remodel and landscaping, the second need we have is our ongoing need for security. We have people sleeping in every night and a hired guard outside. Any two or more folks can volunteer for any night and that gives our members here (who are also working their spare time in the building during the day and evening hours) a wonderful break. There are now lights and water connected and new carpet tiles on the floors, so it is urban camping without too many edges. The exception is the early arrival of various workers with the sun--so sleeping in is a challenge. For offers of taking a night to help in this regard, the person to call is me. (Please contact Heidi at the Presbytery office - 206-762-1991 x4 - to obtain Claudia's phone number.) I am coordinating the folks for the Security Sleepovers. When the outer doors are all hung and the windows all secure we probably will end those, but that day is not yet scheduled.
