Grand Opening of Neighborhood Peace Garden: Rainier Beach PC
Grand Opening of Neighborhood Peace Garden: Rainier Beach PC
On Saturday, July 26, 3-7 pm, we will celebrate the completion of the project with a Grand Opening Celebration.  The Kenyans will barbeque a goat, live music will be performed, games will be played, faces will be painted, and we will have a ceremony outlining the intent of our project and what we have learned from it so far.  One of the features of the garden, a stone baptismal font made from stone culled from the earth in eastern Washington by one of our members, will be put to use the following day for the baptism of an infant (Seattle weather permitting!).  Another feature is a stone pathway made of green granite imported from India, which was donated to us by a local stone artist.  Interspersed with the green granite stones are colorful mosaic stepping stones made by church members portraying many cultures'  signs and symbols of peace.  An antique iron archway with letters that say "GOD BLESS THIS GARDEN" was bought in Lynden from a shop in the building that recently burnt down.

Everyone is invited to join us for this joyous celebration for our Rainier Beach neighborhood!
