GRAND OPENING OF NEIGHBORHOOD PEACE GARDEN: RAINIER BEACH PRESBYTERIAN, JULY 26, 3-7 PM
About 20 months ago we received a grant from the Valparaiso Practices Project (funded by the Eli Lilly Foundation) to build a Neighborhood Peace Garden for the Rainier Beach community in our church's front yard. Grants were awarded to congregations who wanted to implement one of the Christian practices in their community; we devised this project as one way to reach out to our neighbors with hospitality. This project has been an amazing opportunity for us to begin to get to know our neighbors. It has led to other outreach efforts that are bringing neighbors into our renovated church basement for a monthly espresso bar--JUST JAVA--and a monthly community safety meeting.

The Big Tent Event, June 11-13, 2009

Plan now for the PCUSA “Big Tent” event in 2009.
The Big Tent is a one of a kind conference June 11 – 13, 2009. Ten different national network conferences, consultations and convocations, ranging from Evangelism and Church Growth to the National Elders Conference, will be held concurrently at the Hyatt Regency in downtown Atlanta. All these groups normally hold their national conferences separately. In 2009 each group will be hosting their normally scheduled event, but all at the same time and location. What’s really exciting is that there will be “common” time for all participants to come together for worship, meals and a Saturday night celebration. Additionally all participants will have an opportunity to sample workshops from the different networks.
